From one iPhone PND app to another: details of TomTom’s upcoming iPhone cradle and its pricing have emerged, courtesy of a premature listing on Handtec’s site. The accessory – first announced back at Apple’s WWDC in June – includes not only a windscreen mount but a charger, amplified speakers, hands-free kit and separate GPS dongle.

The iPhone Dev Team have updated their redsn0w jailbreak and ultrasn0w carrier unlock tools to work with the iPhone 3GS, citing the release of rival app purplera1n as forcing their hand.

The folks over at Consumer Report reported that iPhone 3GS took the top spot in smartphone ratings with strong performance in every category except for voice quality – an area many phone struggles with. Of course there are other smartphones-ranking pretty close to the iPhone 3GS, including the Palm Pre.

Dubious doesn’t even begin to cover it, but a listing for a silicone skin case for the “iPod touch 3G” has shown up on online store Uxsight. The anti-slip case has a large cut-out on the top left-hand corner, supposedly to accommodate the third-generation iPod touch’s integrated camera.

The iPhone Dev Team may have held off on releasing their ultrasn0w iPhone 3GS jailbreaking and unlocking tool, but that hasn’t stopped long-time Apple hacker George Hotz. He’s released a tool called purplera1n which, while not unlocking the iPhone 3GS, does at least jailbreak it so that unofficial third-party apps can be installed.

About one week after the iPhone 3GS went on sale, the iPhone dev team has announced that they have found the 24Kpwn exploit on the new iPhone 3GS, which was also found on the older iPod Touch 2G. Using a similar technique, the team is developing a jailbreak and an unlock tool for the new iPhone generation.

Owners of the new iPhone 3GS will soon be able to jailbreak and unlock their smartphone, thanks to a five-month-old security flaw in the handset’s baseband. The iPhone Dev Team have verified that Apple have not addressed an exploit known as 24Kpwn that was originally identified in the iPod touch 2G; with it, they will be able to upgrade their ultrasn0w tool to work on the iPhone 3GS.
